First remove the broken piece, then check whether the cylinder still locks smoothly. If it is damaged: a new cylinder on the same call-out, only once you say yes.

With thin hook tools we reach behind the teeth of the key fragment and pull it forward. Before that, the cylinder has to be in its starting position. If the broken piece is stuck at an angle, we turn it back first. Drilling is rarely needed for this.

If the cylinder is damaged after the broken piece is removed, it usually belongs to the landlord. A swap makes sense then, but agree it with the landlord if the cylinder belongs to a system. We swap single cylinders at a fixed price.

Using glue. Pushing the broken piece deeper with a needle. Carrying on with a bent spare key that will soon break too.

Replace old, thin keys. Look after stiff cylinders or have them changed. Never force a key.
