Lock change (Schlosswechsel) in the district of Ludwigsburg: ikeytz replaces the cylinder of your door, for example when tenants change, after a lost key, after a break-in or for better protection with a security cylinder. A change of tenant, a lost key, a break-in or the wish for more protection with a security cylinder: each reason has its own page with the process, the price and tips. What they all have in common: usually only the euro profile cylinder is changed, not the whole lock.

People commonly say lock change, but they almost always mean the lock cylinder, the part the key goes into. The mortice lock in the door stays. Only if the lock itself is damaged, for example after the door has been levered open, does more need to be replaced. For this we quote a fixed price in advance.

If you can still get in, it is a simple cylinder change: 89 € Mon–Fri 8 am–6 pm, otherwise 119 €, including travel, fitting and a standard euro profile cylinder. If the door has to be opened first, the package of opening and new cylinder costs 148 €, 178 €, 198 € or 228 €, plus material. A security cylinder typically costs 25–70 € more.

When you move in or out, old keys should no longer fit. We change the cylinder, ideally straight after the flat handover. The old cylinder usually belongs to the landlord and should be kept.

If the key was lost together with your address, a new cylinder is the safe solution. If you can still get in, it is a simple swap. If you are locked out, we open the door first and change the cylinder on the same trip.

First call 110 and let the police secure the evidence, then fit the new cylinder. If the lock, strike plate or frame is damaged too, we give you a separate fixed price for that beforehand.

Better protection against drilling, pulling and snapping, and keys can only be copied with a security card. The extra cost compared with a standard cylinder is typically 25–70 €. It works best together with a security door plate.

We measure the cylinder inside and outside, choose the right length, pull out the old cylinder, fit the new one and test it with you. You get the new keys and the old cylinder.

If your key only opens the flat door, it is a single cylinder, which we change at a fixed price. If it also opens the front door, cellar or letterbox, it usually belongs to a master key system (Schließanlage). Then the owner decides whether only your door gets its own cylinder or the system is changed. We give you a separate fixed price for that.

A euro profile cylinder has two measurements, from the fixing screw to the outside and to the inside, for example 30/35 mm. If it sticks out a long way on the outside, it is easier to snap off; if it is too short, the key doesn’t engage properly. That is why we measure on site and bring common lengths with us.

A security door plate covers the cylinder on the outside and makes snapping and pulling harder. On front doors and ground-floor flat doors it is a sensible addition. In rented flats, talk to your landlord first; we tell you the price once we have looked at the door.

Only give new keys to people who need them, and note down who has which one. Have extra keys cut from the original, and for security cylinders only with the security card. Keep the card and the invoice separate from the keys.

If the landlord orders the change when tenants change, they usually pay. If the tenant has it changed at their own request, the tenant usually pays. In case of loss or theft some household contents or personal liability insurance policies cover costs; check your policy. The invoice lists every item.

Garages with a door into the house, cellar doors and garden doors often have euro profile cylinders too. If you change several doors, you can choose keyed alike cylinders; then one key opens them all. Keyed alike cylinders usually have to be ordered; we tell you the price and delivery time beforehand.

If the key is stiff or the cylinder catches, care with graphite or cylinder spray often helps, not oil. If it stays stiff, a new cylinder is cheaper than a broken key and an emergency opening.
