Lock change when tenants change

New flat in the district of Ludwigsburg, or just moved out? When tenants change, the old keys should no longer fit. ikeytz changes the euro profile cylinder of the flat door for this. The door is open, nothing gets broken. We tell you the fixed price on the phone before anyone sets off.

Briefly clarify who is ordering the change: the tenant, the landlord or the property management. Check whether the door has a single cylinder or whether the key also locks the front door and the cellar. If so, it is often a master key system (Schließanlage), and we quote a separate fixed price for that.

Count all keys and note them in the handover report. Find out whether a single cylinder or a master key system is fitted. Who pays for the change, the tenant or the landlord? Set the appointment so that the cylinder is changed straight after the handover. Only give new keys to people who really need one. Label and keep the old cylinder if it belongs to the landlord.

A single cylinder only locks the flat door. We change it at the fixed price from the price list. If your key also locks the front door, the cellar or the letterbox, it is usually part of a master key system. Then the landlord or the property management has to decide whether only your door gets its own cylinder or whether the system is changed. We quote a separate fixed price for that in advance.

Cylinder change only, with the door open: Mon–Fri 8 am–6 pm 89 €, Mon–Fri 6 pm–8 am, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays 119 €. This includes travel, fitting and a standard euro profile cylinder. If the cylinder is part of a master key system, it is not a standard case: we then quote a separate fixed price in advance.

We measure the cylinder inside and outside, choose the right length, pull out the old cylinder and fit the new one. Then you test every new key yourself. You get the old cylinder back in case the landlord wants it back when you move out.

A euro profile cylinder has two measurements: from the centre of the fixing screw to the outside and to the inside, for example 30/35 mm. If it sticks out more than a few millimetres on the outside, it is easier to snap off. If it is too short, the key does not engage well. That is why we measure on site and bring suitable lengths with us.

The cylinder fitted in your door usually belongs to the landlord. As a tenant, you can often swap it for your own, as long as you keep the old one safe and have it put back when you move out. With a master key system, the owner decides, because a swap can affect everyone in the building. If in doubt, talk to the property management first. ikeytz does not give legal advice, but we only change a cylinder when it is clear who is placing the order.

Ideally, the cylinder is changed straight after the flat handover, before the furniture arrives and tradespeople get their own keys. If you wait weeks, keys have often already gone to removal helpers, painters or neighbours. A fixed appointment on handover day saves this uncertainty and a second trip.

If the landlord places the order, the invoice goes to the landlord. If you place the order as a tenant, it goes to you. Tell us on the phone who the invoice should be made out to, and there will be no questions later.

Write down who gets which new key. If agreed, give the landlord a key for emergencies. Label the old cylinder and keep it. The invoice belongs with your rental documents.
