A single letterbox on a detached house usually belongs to you. With banks of letterboxes in blocks of flats, it belongs to the owner, and the locks are often identical. Ask the owner for a spare key or a spare lock. If that does not work, we will come.

Letterboxes vary a lot: sheet metal, stainless steel, banks, single boxes, slot at the front or at the back. That is why we tell you the price on the phone based on your description. It is then fixed.

There is no list price for letterboxes. We tell you a fixed price on the phone before we set off. No ‘from’ price, no surprises on site.

Check the name and your ID, open the letterbox, if possible without bending the flap. If you wish, a new lock with two keys.

Most letterboxes have a small lever lock or a mini cylinder that turns a bolt. Replacement locks come in many lengths and shapes. We measure beforehand so that the new lock fits and the flap closes tightly.

With many letterboxes, the lock can be opened without damaging the flap. Sometimes it is easier to destroy the old lock and fit a new one. We tell you that in advance, together with the price.

We only open letterboxes for the person whose name is on them, or with written authorisation. The privacy of correspondence applies to us too. Have your ID card or passport ready.

If you are going away for a longer time, you can set up a mail holding or forwarding service with the postal service. Then your letterbox does not overflow, and nobody can see from outside that you are away. If you lost the key on holiday, we open the letterbox when you get back.

In some buildings, the letterboxes are part of a unit with the doorbells and intercom. Careful work is important there so that no wiring is damaged. Describe the unit on the phone; a photo helps.

If several people empty the letterbox, have a key cut for each of them. Letterbox keys are often easy to copy; with some units, this is only possible through the property management.

Parcel boxes often have their own locks or codes. First ask the manufacturer or the delivery company whether there is an emergency opening option. If a normal lock is fitted, we tell you the price for opening it beforehand.

After a move, the old name is often still on the letterbox. Then bring your tenancy agreement or your registration certificate (Meldebescheinigung), so it is clear that it is your letterbox. A new name tag settles this for the future.

If strangers have broken into your letterbox, call the police. Post or bank cards may have been stolen. Afterwards, we fit a new lock, with the price given on the phone beforehand.

If the letterbox lock sticks, a little graphite or lock spray often helps. No oil, as it attracts dust. If it still does not work, a new lock is the simplest solution.

At your own house, you decide on the lock and letterbox yourself. If you often receive post with deadlines, choose a letterbox with a good lock and protection against fishing post out. We advise you on the phone.

After a death, we open the letterbox for heirs or authorised representatives with proof. Important letters from banks and insurers often arrive there. The property management should be informed.
