How it works

Measure, choose the cylinder, remove the old one, fit the new one, test the keys.

Measuring the length

It is measured from the centre of the fixing screw outwards and inwards, for example 30/35 mm. On the outside, the cylinder should hardly stick out.

Cylinder or lock?

The mortice lock in the door almost always stays. What gets changed is the cylinder that takes the key.

Rented flat

The cylinder usually belongs to the landlord. Keep the old one and agree master key systems in advance.

Four common reasons

New tenants, a lost key, after a break-in, or for more protection with a security cylinder. Each reason has its own page. What they all have in common: usually only the cylinder is changed, and with the door open the price is 89 € or 119 €.

Master key system in the building

If your key also opens the front door of the building, the cellar or the letterbox, it is probably part of a master key system. Then the owner decides. A separate cylinder just for your flat door is possible if the landlord agrees.

Planning the appointment

An appointment Mon–Fri during the day costs 89 €, in the evening or at the weekend 119 €.

New keys

A standard cylinder comes with several keys. You can have more cut from the original. With security cylinders this is only possible with the security card.

The old cylinder

You get the old cylinder back. In a rented flat it usually belongs to the landlord and should be kept for when you move out.

Common mistakes

Buying a cylinder without measuring. Throwing away the old cylinder. Changing a master key cylinder on your own.

After the change

Hand out the new keys with care and collect the old ones.
