Many people sleep badly after a burglary. A door that closes properly again helps. If you don’t feel safe in your home, stay with family or friends and have the door fixed calmly the next day.

Look at the damage and discuss with you what is needed. Usually: change the cylinder and check whether the lock still bolts. If more is broken, emergency securing at a fixed price once you say yes.

If the door is so damaged that it no longer closes, we secure it for the night. Depending on the damage, this can be a temporary lock, a bolt on the inside or a board. Emergency securing is not a standard case; we tell you the price in advance.

Many newer doors lock at several points. If such a door has been attacked, the repair often needs parts from the manufacturer. We secure the door first and then plan the repair with you.

Reporting it to the police is the first step. Photos taken before any repair help with the insurance. In rented flats, tell the landlord, because the door and frame are often their responsibility. We write an invoice listing every item.

If the door is open or you hear noises, do not go in. Stay outside, call 110 and wait for the police. Your safety comes before everything else, including the door.

Many burglaries happen through windows or balcony doors, not through the flat door. Once the police have been, check that all windows close. Damaged windows are a job for a glazier or window fitter; we take care of doors and locks.

If keys are missing after the burglary, for example from a key hook, the cylinder must be changed in any case. Otherwise the burglar could come back later with your own key. Tell us this on the phone.

After the burglary, write down what is missing, with a description and, if possible, receipts or photos. The police and your insurer need this list. Missing keys, ID documents and bank cards are important too.

Once the door is secured overnight, plan calmly the next day: call your insurer, tell the landlord, get quotes for repairs. Bigger work on the door and frame is done by joiners or door fitters; we take care of the lock and cylinder.

Basement storage units and garages get broken into too. The order is the same: call 110, have the evidence secured, take photos, then replace the lock. We tell you the price beforehand.

Even if it is hard: do not tidy up before the police have been. Drawers, cupboards and windows may carry traces. Afterwards you can tidy up; take photos first.
