A smoke alarm in the kitchen and hallway warns neighbours. A spare key with neighbours saves time in an emergency. Some cookers have an automatic switch-off.

In Baden-Württemberg, smoke alarms are required by law in bedrooms, children’s rooms and hallways. A cooker with automatic shut-off or a cooker safety device helps as well.
