Lock change after a break-in – 71665

After a break-in in Vaihingen an der Enz, the door often no longer closes properly, or the cylinder is damaged. Once the police have finished, we change the cylinder and check whether the lock and the door plate still hold. We tell you the price in advance.

Call 110 first. If possible, do not touch the door, the cylinder or the door plate until the evidence has been secured. Take photos of the damage for the insurance. Only then do we change the cylinder.

Whether in Vaihingen an der Enz, Eberdingen or Sersheim: after a break-in, what matters is a door that locks properly again. In Vaihingen an der Enz you typically find houses in the old-town lanes and in districts such as Ensingen, Gündelbach or Riet. We pay attention to the cylinder length and the door plate so that the new cylinder is not easy to attack again. Tell us the district. Vaihingen an der Enz is not Stuttgart-Vaihingen.

Fixed: the cylinder change with the door open, 89 € or 119 €. Extra for a security cylinder: typically 25–70 €. Not on the list: emergency securing and damage to the door or frame. For these we quote a separate fixed price in advance.

Monday, 11 am, door open, cylinder only: 89 €. Saturday, 12 pm, door open, cylinder only: 119 €. Monday, 11 am, locked out, slammed shut, new cylinder: 148 € plus material. We confirm the exact amount by phone before we set off.

We check the cylinder, lock, strike plate and door plate. If only the cylinder is broken, we change it. If more is damaged, we tell you in advance what it costs on top, and you decide. At the end, the door locks securely again.

When a door is levered open, the strike plate in the frame often gives way. Then a new cylinder is not enough. A reinforced strike plate with long screws into the masonry is a separate job with its own fixed price.

You need the police report for your insurance. Depending on your policy, home contents insurance covers stolen items and damage; in rented flats, the door itself is often a matter for the landlord’s buildings insurance. So tell the landlord as well. Keep photos, the police report and invoices together.

Take photos for the insurance before anything is changed. Keep the invoice. A security door plate that covers the cylinder makes snapping it off harder.

Many people feel uneasy after a burglary. A door that locks properly again helps. Talking to family or to a victim support service helps too.
