Lock change after a lost key – 71665

A lost key is a risk if it went missing together with your address, for example with your ID card in your wallet. In Vaihingen an der Enz (71665) we then change the lock cylinder so that the old key no longer fits.

Think about what else was on the key ring: front door, car, office, letterbox? Was your name or address on it? If so, the cylinder should be changed soon. If you rent and the key is part of a master key system, inform your landlord.

We come to you in Vaihingen an der Enz, about 20.0 km as the crow flies from the ikeytz office in Adalbert-Stifter-Straße. If you can still get in, it is a planned cylinder change. If you are locked out, we open the door first and then fit the new cylinder in the same trip. Tell us the district. Vaihingen an der Enz is not Stuttgart-Vaihingen.

If you can still get in: Cylinder change only, with the door open: Mon–Fri 8 am–6 pm 89 €, Mon–Fri 6 pm–8 am, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays 119 €. This includes travel, fitting and a standard euro profile cylinder. If you are locked out: opening and a new cylinder in one trip cost 148 € / 198 € (slammed shut) or 178 € / 228 € (locked), cylinder material typically 25–50 €.

Thursday, 9 am, door open, cylinder only: 89 €. Saturday, 8 am, door open, cylinder only: 119 €. Thursday, 11:15 pm, door open, cylinder only: 119 €. We confirm the exact amount by phone before we set off.

If you are inside, it is a simple swap: old cylinder out, new one in, test the lock. If you are outside, we first open the door without damage, if the door allows it, and then change the cylinder.

The new cylinder has the same length as the old one, unless the old one stuck out too far. Then we choose a shorter one. The locking is new, and old keys no longer fit. If you want more protection, choose a security cylinder with a card.

If your key only locks your flat door, the case is simple: new cylinder, new keys, done. If it also locks the front door of the building, the basement and the letterbox, it is probably a master key system. Then the owner has to decide. In both cases, we tell you the price beforehand.

Check whether your liability or home contents insurance covers key loss before you have a master key system changed. Keep the invoice.

A spare key with family or neighbours saves money next time. With security cylinders, keep the security card separate from the key.
