Lock change after a lost key – 71638

A lost key is a risk if it went missing together with your address, for example with your ID card in your wallet. In Ludwigsburg (71638) we then change the lock cylinder so that the old key no longer fits.

Quickly check the usual places and ask at the local lost property office (Fundbüro). If the key is really gone, call us. Tell us whether you can still get into the flat; the price depends on it.

In Ludwigsburg you typically find old buildings with a courtyard gate, rows of flats and terraced houses. Tell us whether the lost key also locks other doors; then we can plan for that straight away. Postcode 71638 covers several districts. Tell us the street and the district.

If you can still get in: Cylinder change only, with the door open: Mon–Fri 8 am–6 pm 89 €, Mon–Fri 6 pm–8 am, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays 119 €. This includes travel, fitting and a standard euro profile cylinder. If you are locked out: opening and a new cylinder in one trip cost 148 € / 198 € (slammed shut) or 178 € / 228 € (locked), cylinder material typically 25–50 €.

Monday, 10:30 am, locked out, slammed shut, new cylinder: 148 € plus material. Monday, 7 pm, door open, cylinder only: 119 €. Monday, 10:30 am, door open, cylinder only: 89 €. We confirm the exact amount by phone before we set off.

If you are inside, it is a simple swap: old cylinder out, new one in, test the lock. If you are outside, we first open the door without damage, if the door allows it, and then change the cylinder.

The new cylinder has the same length as the old one, unless the old one stuck out too far. Then we choose a shorter one. The locking is new, and old keys no longer fit. If you want more protection, choose a security cylinder with a card.

If your key only locks your flat door, the case is simple: new cylinder, new keys, done. If it also locks the front door of the building, the basement and the letterbox, it is probably a master key system. Then the owner has to decide. In both cases, we tell you the price beforehand.

Check whether your liability or home contents insurance covers key loss before you have a master key system changed. Keep the invoice.

A spare key with family or neighbours saves money next time. With security cylinders, keep the security card separate from the key.
