Nobody needs to feel embarrassed about calling 112 when a child is behind the door. Better once too often. The control centre decides whether the fire brigade comes. We are the right help once it is clear that there is no danger.

Children sense when adults are panicking. Talk calmly, sing a song or tell a story through the door. That helps more than rattling the handle.

Don’t leave the key in the lock on the inside when small children are around. Leave a spare key with neighbours.

With small children, do not leave the key in the lock on the inside. Doors with a fixed knob on the outside slam shut easily if the child pushes them.
